Basic Training Clinics (one day)
Training Llamas & Alpacas for Willing Cooperation: One-day clinic covering the basics of llama handling, including catch, halter and lead; entering buildings and navigating stairs; blowing, brushing, cutting toenails, filing fighting teeth; loading in trailers and standard vans; maneuvering the obstacle course; and much more. You just can't beat spending a day with one of the most renowned llama and alpaca trainers in the country!

Pack Training Clinics (two days)
On Saturday, we'll teach your llama to carry a pack and maneuver the obstacle course while carrying lightly loaded panniers. Sunday, the entire group goes to one of Bobra's favorite pack training trails, where we'll cross numerous streams before lunch, eat in a beautiful meadow, and use the return trip to familiarize both handlers and llamas with other things they may typically encounter on the trail. (See our catalog for packing equipment, including saddles, panniers, string-along lines, bells, collapsible water buckets, and other necessities for your future treks.)

Driving and Showmanship Clinics (TBD)
As interest dictates, Bobra will present her llama cart driving clinic and showmanship clinic. Let us know if you would like to attend, and we'll get it on the calendar! E-mail us at llamas@rockymtllamas.com

We have scheduled our first basic training clinic of 2006, to be held at Rocky Mountain Llamas, just north of Boulder, CO. These clinics demonstrate proven, gentle and very efficient methods for handling and training llamas and alpacas from weanlings to adults. These techniques and principles will allow you to manage and handle your lamas easily and safely on a day-to-day basis, training them to be willing and cooperative. For detailed information, including registration form, see http://rockymtllamas.com/clinicinfo.htm

As soon as we can fairly well count on clear trails and sunny days, we'll schedule our two-day pack clinics. These are great fun, with the learning process on the first day and an actual trail hike on the second. Check back for updates or call us to put your name on the contact sheet.

Driving Clinics
TBD

Cathy Spalding & Bobra Goldsmith Together for the First Time!

Over the Labor Day 2005 holiday, Bobra Goldsmith and Rocky Mountain Llamas hosted Cathy Spalding's Gentle Spirit training clinics. Even competing with two shows in our area, attendance was great! Lots of notes were taken, along with some photos; and we'll be sharing both as soon as we can post them on our Web site. If you missed the recent clinic here, you missed a really exceptional program. Let us know if you're interested in attending a Gentle Spirit clinic in the future ~ with enough interest, we'll book Cathy asap for 2006!

  • Day 1: Cathy Spalding’s Basic Gentle Spirit Clinic (Saturday, 9/03/05)
Cathy works with attendees to discover the cues and signals of llama behavior, discusses the philosophy behind training, human/lama interactions, interpreting behaviors and responses, effective body positioning, balance, and many more topics of immediate interest and relevance.

  • Day 2: Cathy Spalding’s Advanced Gentle Spirit Clinic (Sunday, 9/04/05)
Building on the human and lama behavioral understandings gained in the first day, Cathy continues to refine behaviors and training, as well as adding new topics and explorations. She includes plenty of hands-on time for each participant, as well as addressing “problem” areas of behavior or training.

  • Day 3: Bobra Goldsmith’s Mini-Pack Training Clinic & Hike (Monday, 9/05/05)
For the first time, Bobra offers a mini pack clinic designed to introduce you and your lama to her easy pack-training technique, proper pack-loading and hiking concerns; and then follows it up with an afternoon hike to a favorite near-by trail.
